В IE если не застайлить placeholder у input-а - он отображается цветом шрифта (по умолчанию, чёрным).
Нужно добавить поддержку стилей для зоопарка браузеров:
::-moz-placeholder
::-webkit-input-placeholder
:-ms-input-placeholder

Возможно, это нужно добавить сразу в stylobate.
