In addition to PHPUnit tests, we can have a general sanity check which would be especially relevant to themes that may lack unit tests: we can fire up PHP to load the homepage of the site. The presence of an error should block pre-commit and it should cause the Travis build to fail.

We can re-use the database drop-in used by the PHPUnit tests.
