Upgrade guide to Craft Studio 2 (support for Craft 5)

Craft Studio 2.0.0-alpha.1 adds support for Craft 5:

• We've developed a migration for podcast and episode elements that migrates data to Craft 5 without any loss or alteration to the RSS.
• Super Table won't be supported in Craft 6, and Craft Studio 2 no longer supports Super Table fields in Craft 5. If you have a Super Table field in a podcast or episode field layout, especially one used for generating RSS (e.g., recipient field in recipientTimeSplit block type), you should convert that Super Table field to a Matrix field after upgrading to Craft 5. This process does not result in data loss.
• Since Matrix block types are converted to entry types and some Super Tables need to be converted to Matrix fields as mentioned earlier, you'll need to update references to Matrix block types and Super Tables after the upgrade.
  • For each podcast format, on the podcast mapping and episode mapping page, you should reselect if a field is now in a Matrix field. So before upgrading to Craft 5, please note if a field mapping item is using a Matrix (only for podcast and episode asset items mapping).
  • If you used any configuration mentioned in config/studio.php in your Craft 4 project, you should update all those references from blockType to entryType, for example, chapterBlockType should be changed to chapterEntryType. See the complete list of configurations in Craft Studio 2 here.
• Because all fields inside a Matrix or Super Table in Craft 4 are converted to global fields in Craft 5, depending on how complex your project is, you might see many similar fields on the fields list after the upgrade.
  • For example, converting a project created based on the Craft Studio starter for Craft 4 to Craft 5 may result in many similar fields because that template used many Matrix fields, which have many fields with the same handle.
  • Fortunately, Craft 5 does not break references to those fields even if the handle of those fields is changed, so you don't need to change your template
  • Hopefully, there will be a CLI tool in the future in Craft 5 that merges similar fields.
• Thumbnails for podcast and episode elements are now generated based on fields selected as "use for element thumbnails" in the podcast and episode field layout, not asset fields specified on the mapping page.
• In Craft 4, there were tools to create chapters, soundbites, and transcripts. In Craft 5, these tools still work only if the type of Matrix fields for chapters, soundbites, and so on is inline editable blocks.

Craft Studio Starter

• The studio plugin starter project for Craft 5 is ready now that empowers globalized fields and that you can use as a template for new Craft 5 projects.
  • Creating a new project in Craft 4 via the Craft Studio starter template for v4 is discouraged because, as mentioned earlier, you'll end up with many similar fields after upgrade to Craft 5.
