I started using defer, instead of due dates, after seeing it recommended in "Field Guide" to OmniFocus. Defer is great because it cuts down on the clutter: things don't "show up" until their defer data has passed.
At some point, I decided I preferred the simplicity of text-based tracking. If I may kindly make a feature request to add defer to vscode-todo-md I would be grateful.

My use case is more similar to "defer" than to "schedule".
One difference from #59 is that if we think about it as "defer", the important part of the feature becomes making it very easy to defer things to some date.
