Describe the bug

When I had booted bazzite-deck-stable.iso with the kernel command line option rd.live.ram set, dracut correctly loaded the live image to RAM, but the block device remained in use (requiring manual intervention before Anaconda let me set it as where to install Bazzite to). Moreover the contents of /run/install/repo/bazzite-deck-stable/ (and maybe also other files next to that directory, like sb_pubkey.der – can't check rn) were not copied to RAM which required another manual intervention later on.

What did you expect to happen?

I would like rd.live.ram to work as it does on Fedora (and presumably as it does on Silberblue as well).

Output of rpm-ostree status

[ not applicable ]
(Installer ISO version 41.20250106.2)

Hardware

  • about 16 gigabytes of RAM (enough for the installer to easily fit and run)
  • a 1TB HDD as both the installer boot medium and the installation target

Extra information or context

I'm almost certain there's nothing to be fixed in Bazzite itself. The problem stems from how JasonN3/build-container-installer puts together the ISOs, tweaking Anaconda stuff using Lorax templates and how some of that doesn't play nicely with the dracut logic. But since I'm not sure which of those needs to be adjusted, I decided to start here (since Bazzite is the downstream I encountered this problem with).
