Around a year ago I started on trying to automate the Lua bindings, replacing tolua++ with something more similar to what was done with the AngelScript bindings, rather than relying on the semi-manually created bindings. I made good progress with it - the bindings largely work, aside from subscribing to events. A few changes to the Lua scripts were required, but not all that many. However, this project is very much on the back burner for me, and I may not get around to finishing it anytime soon. So if someone else wants to finish up the work, you can find my binding code here:
At present, it isn't well integrated with the U3D codebase, as you can tell from it being a separate project. However, it does need some U3D changes, so use the branch linked in the Readme.
If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them, I just don't have time to finish up the work myself now.
