I understand that we want to advertise the Technician Commitment, but is this the right place? Does this now imply a definition, identifying Research Software Engineers as Technicians? Why is it then RSE and not RST?
Note that I am not implying "mechanical engineers", but generally "engineers" (similarly to "software engineers"). There is a difference between the skills and responsibilities of an engineer and a technician (or maybe this is culture-dependent), and we should (as you definitely agree) be careful here.

ties in a bit with the RTP in #327 I thought it would be good place to mention this initiative of the UK. |
I think it is good to mention the initiative. I know many RSE don't want to be called technicians (personally I don't have a problem with that). They do face exactly the same problems as we, mostly to do with lack of career path and dead-end career. |
