Portrait screen layout and post-compile ability to arrange screen layout

I know this has been discussed before, but is there any plan to give a bit more freedom to custom screen layouts? I appreciate it's probably a major GUI design and functionality job, but it would be so useful to be able to customise the layout and it be a bit smarter about monitor resolution and orientation, particularly for portrait screens. IOsender Touch is along the right lines, but not great, and the dev isn't really keeping up with the evolving features and fixes of the original. I could live without most of the touch features (I do use a touch screen) if the layout of IOsender could be more flexible.
