Make sure minimal vertical space is respected by all columns.

track extent of each column
subd method to compare column extent with placed subd (max of column upper bound or on column-by-column basis)
alluv property for minimal vertical distance between subds (hspace - as height of vertical padding)
set the y-offset based on prev. comparison and a hspace between subd-s (a property of alluvial).
