When importing descriptive metadata from MARC records, a bracket is sometimes treated as a nonsorting character.

Example: Symphony record 12648283

  • The title of this record is [North Korean poster collection]
  • When imported into Cocina, the [ in the title is separated out as a non-sorting character
title2.note1.type title2.note1.value title2.status title2.structuredValue1.type title2.structuredValue1.value title2.structuredValue2.type title2.structuredValue2.value
nonsorting character count 2 primary nonsorting characters [ main title North Korean poster collection]
  • When formatted for display, a space is added between the '[' and the first word, resulting in the title: [ North Korean poster collection] (Argo)

I'm not sure if this is a problem with the marc2mods-to-Cocina transformation or if it's a problem with how the Cocina is parsed to create the displayed title in Argo and in purls.
