MediaWiki Style templates/hugo style shortcodes

Mediawiki (Wikipedia runs on it), has little components called templates that can be "called" using the following syntax

{{mytemplate}}

Hugo, the static site generator, has something very similar called shortcodes which have the following syntax:

{{% myshortcode %}}

Both can take arguments. I could not figure out how to do this with the current templating system. I implemented the MediaWiki syntax in a lua filter without much trouble, but it may be worth adding as a core feature.
