Help Applied Epi equip frontline epidemiologists with advanced open-source tools
Applied Epi is a non-profit organization that equips frontline epidemiologists in low-income settings with the cutting-edge open-source R tools, training, and community support.
We are already having a major impact on public health with our free open-source Epidemiologist R Handbook, which has been used 680,000 times by 97,000 people (including 25,000 in low- and middle-income countries) and was featured by Github. But now we need your help to bring R training to every epidemiologist around the globe!
Most epidemiologists still use Excel for data analysis. Switching to a free, scripted software for data management and analysis will transform the quality of analytics in outbreak control and advance equity in the field of public health. We need funds to train frontline epidemiologists in low-income settings in R to better control outbreaks and strengthen health systems.

About us
We are a grassroots collective of frontline epidemiologists and public health practitioners.
We support people working on the front lines of public health response by accelerating the coming shift toward analytical tools and epidemiological methods that are open-source, accessible, and agile.
We build analytical tools for the common practitioner, offer accessible and relevant training, cultivate a global user community, and advocate for standardised epidemiological methods.
We work closely with major global health partners like Doctors without Borders and TEPHINET (the global network of field epidemiology training programs). We also partner with local and country-level health agencies and NGOs to train frontline epidemiologists.
We are already having a massive impact
Applied Epi's free Epidemiologist R Handbook been used 680,000 times by over 97,000 people (including 25,000 in low- and middle-income countries) and is being translated into 9 languages.
Along with delivering R training and support, we need funds to maintain this industry-standard handbook, produce translations, and add new content.
Who is Applied Epi
We are a grassroots collective of frontline epidemiologists who want to usher epidemiology into a new era of open-source, accessible, and agile analytical tools.
Meet our team of over 130 contributors in 33 countries, and read more about our story and vision on our website.
This money will allow us to train frontline epidemiologists in low-income settings to use free, open-source R tools to fight epidemics like COVID-19. Our R training materials already helped one Haitian epidemiologist reduce 30 *hours* of weekly Excel analysis into 30 *minutes* using R - help us replicate this success across the globe!
