I've heard recently through our University of Michigan Mac software support group that the upcoming version of macOS (15) will be dropping support for the x64 version of Java. Apparently the aarch version will be required, which currently breaks S6 application launching. We've been working around this issue by using the x64 version on macOS Sonoma (14), but we're being warned that this wouldn't be supported for much longer.

If Specify 6 will no longer function on up-to-date Macs, we may need to advise users to switch to Windows or S7. Knowing this in advance with help with the transition.

The urgency of this issue has been accelerated after news that macOS 15 will no longer support the x64 version of Java according to the team at UMich.
