I had an interesting conversation today with the echo project. They are preparing a generic data repository (based on mongoDB) in which they can store all types of artifacts, such as datasets, images, movie-fragments, etc. The metadata for each artifact is captured in a CKAN instance.
Each artifact will be available through a PID, generated by the framework, not a DOI.
Metadata for each PID will be available through an API.
Metadata will be made available, probably through a sparql api, and using a generic ckan metadata model, but this is open for discussion.
We identified that there is no clear user story for working with citizen science data from Soilwise/EUSO dashboard. From a EUSO perspective it is probably relevant to identify sets of citizen artifacts, or products derived from sets of citizen artifacts. A citizen artifact it typically a json or csv fragment submitted by a mobile application related to a citizen observation or task.
Echo project expects first data results to be made available february 2025. They can however already provide dummy data, in case we are interested
Access and Usage constraints related to GDPR are relevant in this scenario
From https://publications.jrc.ec.europa.eu/repository/bitstream/JRC137600/JRC137600_01.pdf P94
"ECHO aims to collect data from up to 16 500 sites
across Europe, consolidating this information into
Echorepo, a long-term open-access data repository"
