What happened?

When you use the snap version of Signal with an RTL language (like Arabic) and click the emojis button next to the text entry field, the emojis popup is viewed behind the side panel, making it unusable.

image

What should have happened?

The emojis popup should either be shifted to the left, or be viewed on top of the side panel rather than behind it.

Can you try the upstream package you download from here: https://signal.org/download/

Try it out and see if the issue persists. If it does, it's an issue with the app, and not our snap.

I tried the upstream package, and the issue isn't there, as seen in this screen shot:

Some more details:

  • The upstream package was tested on Ubuntu 22.04.
  • The upstream package is actually a bit newer. It's 6.40.0, compared to the snap version which is still at 6.39.1.

I will give it another attempt on the snap version once it's updated to 6.40.0, and will post my finding here.

I confirm that version 6.40.0 fixes the issue for snap signal as well. This bug can be closed.
