Styles and Classes

Happy new year!
I've just started using Quill, and so far I'm quite impressed.

I've looked through the issues and discussions, and couldn't find any discussions about this. If I've missed them, please accept my apologies and direct me to the answer.

I am building a blog editor, and I want the images in my blog to all follow a similar style. It appears that when I load HTML that has custom CSS styles or classes, they get removed prior to loading the content in the editor. If I add them with the developer tools in the browser, and then hit save, I see them in the database, and in my list view.

Is this a bug, or is it by design? If by design, I would love to understand the rationale behind that choice.
