There is an issue with Gnome using Wayland as the windowing system on Debian.
(My comment might be related to a recent opened issue.)

When pressing the keyboard CTRL key while having a window of the file browser Nautilus, the windows shuts down unexpectedly.

An issue had been opened on the Gnome repository: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/issues/5472
The debugging efforts have led to identify scim as the location of the bug.

FWIW, I have completed the opened issue on the GNOME repository with a backtrace log message.
Please let me know if it is relevant to actually open an issue on your repository.
