Consumer is always consuming

I have output of a queue being consumed by the in node. The output of this node is being wired to a TCP port which is sending to another host on port 2003 to graphite/grafana.

If that connection goes down how does the consumer node detect that it should stop delivering and wait for the connection to proceed after reconnection?
