The questionnaire should help us find out which Sardana features are most frequently used, and therefore which issues should be prioritized.

Hi,
Here is a google form that was used to get feedback from MxCUBE users.
I hope it helps:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1VSDe8qPlkNajc_0hIpVCigmLS2liwqHQ1XBIpWx_5S4/viewform?edit_requested=true

There is also a different form that was used, but I think this one works well as an inspiration for our purposes.

Thanks Antonio for sharing it! Some ideas could be reused. I also think that before opening the questionanaire it is better to finish with the documentation and first announce it to the users. First of all because the TOC of the documentation should be basically the list of the Sardana features, more or less.. Then I see that some of the questions should be about the documentation itself.

After few iterations at the last follow-up meetings we finally prepared the questionnaire. The plan is to launch it together with the upcomming Jan20 release. But before launching it to the real users, we agreed to fill it with some realistic data from each site. The purpose of this is to thoroughly review the questionnaire and also to check if the responses are easy to interpret. So, I have done it myself (without the information from the scientist) for one laboratory at ALBA. @teresanunez, @daneos, @julianofjm and @aureocarneiro please do the same (one from MAXIV would be enough). If you find any errors/typos, feel free to correct it directly. You can find the code in the sardana-questionnaire repository. For adding/removing questions either open a PR, or if you are not familiar with the Google scripting language just open an issue in this new project and I will convert it into the code.

The questionnaire asks about the Sardana components e.g. Spock, macros, motion control, etc.
First, it asks if you use a given component and based on the answer you will be guided through the more detailed questions.

  • If you answer yes, you will continue with:
    • questions about this component's exisitng features (if any)
    • questions about this component's possible new futures (if any)
    • comments about this component
  • If you answer no but you see a possibility of using it in the future you will continue with:
    • questions about this component's possible new futures (if any)
    • comments about this component
  • If you answer no and you don't see a possibility to use it in the future you will continue with:
    • comments about this component
  • If you answer that this component does not have sense you will continue with:
    • comments about this component

The components covered in this questionnaire are:

  • Clients:
    • Spock
    • MacroExecutor
    • Sequencer
    • MacroButton
    • Experiment Configuration
    • Showscan online
    • Showscan offline
    • Taurus form (moveable, channel, IOR, others)
  • Macros
  • Scans
  • Continuous scans
  • Data storage
  • Data acquisition
  • Motion control

Hope you will like it!

After reviewing the exemplary answers on the last follow-up meeting we agreed that the questionnaire format allows easy interpretation of the results. We just found that the colors automatically assigned to the responses summary charts are not the best. For example, let's take this question:
image
We think that the following colors would work better:

  • Yes - green
  • Not now but I may use it in the future - blue
  • Not now and I doubt I will use it in the future - orange
  • No and this feature does not have sense to me - red

I have investigated a little bit but could not find a way to change it for the automatic reponses summary. We can of course change it if we prepare the charts manually from the spreadsheet. But this will require creating charts manullay for more than 120 questions...

I have added help text to the majority of questions with the URLs to the documentation: sardana-org/sardana-questionnaire#5. Could someone of you please check if there are any typos/mistakes and correct them?

I also propose to add these general question: sardana-org/sardana-questionnaire#6.

Now, I'm going to share this questinnaire proposal to my colleagues at ALBA to ask for the final feedback. Feel free to do that same at your sites.

Thanks a lot for your great work!
