Summary

Stat tables (Downstream, Upstream, and Codewords) reported by the XB8 are buggy starting 2024/09/24 and most columns are missing data or have 0's.

This is not something that can be fixed by this project, it's a bug with it's firmware or provisioning, but want people to be aware this project can no longer can collect stat from some XB8 Cable Gateways.

This firmware was rolled back by Comcast as far as I know.

@sarabveer Interesting, when did they roll it back? What versions numbers did the rollback to?

My gateway was initially upgraded to CGM4981COM_7.6p2s4_PROD_sey / Prod_23.2_231009 & Prod_23.2_231009.

After that I noticed another reboot a few days later where the firmware was downgraded to CGM4981COM_7.3p4s1_PROD_sey / Prod_22.2_d31 & Prod_22.2.

It could be because I am part of Comcast's L4S / Low latency trial that my gateway was downgraded.

Seems like Comcast is now rolling out a newer firmware CGM4981COM_7.6p5s1_PROD_sey / Prod_23.2_231009 & Prod_23.2_231009.

@sarabveer Thanks for the details!

So to be clear, now that your on "CGM4981COM_7.6p5s1_PROD_sey" the stats are loading correctly for you?

Anyway to get the new firmware quicker than waiting a week or 2 for them to roll it?

  • Tried asking them to update this version through forums.xfinity.com/direct-messaging.
    • They don't really understand my request, the seem to only be able reprovision it.
  • Any other Comcast contact channels instead of the above better?
  • Any sort of work arounds to get Comcast's DOCSIS servers to give the update to the modem?

@jkasten2 Ah I should have mentioned I am not on that firmware yet. Just seeing reports online. My modem is currently on 7.3p4s1.

The only way to get the firmware is to wait. Comcast will push it and reboot the modem (usually early in the morning).

@sarabveer Thanks for the details!

Could you share links to those? I can't find anyone talking about firmware versions "CGM4981COM_7.6p5s1_PROD_sey" or "7.6p5s1" anywhere.
Never mind, I see it is an image from this post:
