i want to show a bunch of series on one graph, and then a bunch of other series (from the same dataset for now) on another graph, on the same page.

I've already put in the infrastructure for creating new views it just isn't in the UI yet (the Project object has an array of views). What we need to do is have a way to "Add a view".

The other thing you want is to have multiple views visible at once. That needs a bit of thought regarding the UX and UI ...
