Hey! dear @rrwick
I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your amazing work in maintaining those incredibly useful tools. Seriously, they have been a game-changer for my work.

Now, I do have a small question for you. Could you provide me with the appropriate citation for Filtlong or Porechop? I've done some digging on Google Scholar and PubMed, but I couldn't find any official papers for either tool.

It would be super awesome if you could help me out with this. Your tools have been such a huge asset to me, and I want to make sure I give the proper credit where it's due.

Thanks a ton for all your hard work and dedication.
Looking forward to hearing back from you soon!

Hi Ben,

I was just looking this up myself, and it seems that for Porechop there is a publication, see: rrwick/Porechop#86 (comment). For Filtlong there is no publication, and they themselves just cite the GitHub page (see https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9980784/).

Probably no longer useful for you, but might be handy for others in the future.

Thanks, Ben - that's good advice. There isn't really a paper for Porechop, but the paper you mentioned does reference it for the first time, so is probably a good citation. And no paper for Filtlong, so just cite the GitHub. In hindsight, I should have written a short paper, but too late now 😄

Meanwhile, you could provide a DOI of the repository. See https://docs.github.com/en/repositories/archiving-a-github-repository/referencing-and-citing-content
