Location-Ref not set in GWT edition when using IE9/IE10

The location-ref in the GWT response is always NULL in IE9 and IE10 when using GWT (2.5.x) when the response is 204 - No content

This is very annoying because after POSTing a new entity to the server, the application cannot retrieve the newly created entity and displays (in my case) a new empty form.

It looks like the location-ref is not the only problem... the status is not populated either

Tested Opera / Chrome / FF ... all fine. Just IE9 / IE10 (don't know about IE <9)

The server returns status code 204 after the POST :

XMLHTTPRequest implementation in MSXML HTTP (at least in IE 8.0 on Windows XP SP3+) does not handle HTTP responses with status code 204 (No Content) properly; the `status' property has the value 1223.

This is a known bug and most of the javascript based frameworks handle this situation and normalizes 1223 to 204 in IE

So the solution to your problem would be like this

// Normalize IE's response to HTTP 204 when Win error 1223.
status : (conn.status == 1223) ? 204 : conn.status,
// Normalize IE's statusText to "No Content" instead of "Unknown".
statusText : (conn.status == 1223) ? "No Content" : conn.statusText

IE0013: IE XMLHTTP implementation turns 204 response code into bogus 1223 status code

Described here http://dev.jquery.com/ticket/1450, the XMLHTTPRequest object in IE will return a status code of 1223 and drop all response headers if the server returns a HTTP/204 No Content response.

This is caused by an internal design artifact of URLMon (binding returns Operation Aborted (1223) if the server returns no content in response to a request).

Repros in IE9 and earlier. Update: Fixed in IE10.

Workaround: Treat "1223" as equivalent to a 204. Note: HTTP headers remain unavailable in this case.
