I've republished v1.4.0 as v1.5.3 in order to fix issues caused by breaking changes.
The next step would be to test the new version, ensure that it works in all cases and then publish it as 2.0. as @Jameskmonger suggested.

@sbason Can you please help to ensure that all the cases are working?
