G+ is dead and will be sunset August 2019. We need to find a replacement for

  • a.) xro's favorite social network
  • b.) announcement channel for the infokiosk

a) haha, indeed, the only social network that I ever really used :)
b) yeaah.. any ideas? mastodon? Google+ Rewritten? MeWe? Movim? (could setup a hackerspaces austria mastodon instance)

Movim looks like it would be easy to integrate

I vote for a social network that is actually used ...

well, yes, we do now have the opportunity to break with tradition and use a social network that also works a social network and not just to display posts on a kiosk-page.

If we were just looking for the kiosk-replacement however, Movim might be a good and viable choice:

  • Chaos Computer Club hosts Movim Servers
  • "Community" page are easy to integrate (rss, etc)
  • all members of a community can easily publish on to the "community"-page
  • everyone with an XMPP account can instantly participate and XMPP accounts are quickly created
  • no additional software or App required .. post from your favorite XMPP client
  • fast light-weight HTML / no ads / etc

The only other social-network used around CCC that I know of is Mastodon. I have no experience with it and heard mixed things about it. However, if someone were to set up a realraum or hackerspaces.at mastodon instance, that would pretty much finalize the decision.

Any other recommendation? Or votes for a particular network?

As for posting from Matrix (making it easy for our users), there is both support for Mastodon (via mycete ) and Movim (via xmpptrix)

Attempting to replace G+ with Mastodon chaos.social: https://chaos.social/@realraum

Status of Autoposting Blog Posts

Currently auto-posting new wp.realraum.at blogposts does not work, since autoposters fail with our wordpress version. --> somebody needs to update wp.realraum.at

Status of Embedding timeline into kiosk

Currently Mastodon only exports an rss-feed per user. A service named mastofeed converts this to html which we can embed in an iframe.
This works for now. But at least we should run our own Mastofeed instance and not depend on an external service. (Todo for r3-docker-services-cloud)

--> somebody needs to update wp.realraum.at

Who is maintaining the website right now? I was under the impression there is a new website team since a while?

There is/was an announcement-team but it had nothing to do with the website.
I was under the impression that a certain verr or petertheone were maintaining the site.
A related important question would be: who has access to the instance wp.realraum.at is running on?
