Currently, all tabs from previous session open in one tab group.

Could the organization into tab groups be also preserved, potentially including their geometry?

I have no idea that tabs could be grouped. So, sorry for the dummy question: how can I create tab groups?

Hello @raelgc. For completeness, I am using Gedit 3.36 and this is the official documentation of the feature. Note that it allows recursive splitting, or at least that seems to be the way the GUI is implemented.
