Issue when toggling between text editor and visual editor

I am encountering a problem when toggling between the text editor and visual editor where the reference to my image is getting reformatted causing the image to not display correctly. What is happening is r inline code appears to be getting reformatted from (r here('figs/time_series.png')) to (%60r%20here('figs/time_series.png')%60) which then can't be found when I render the report unless I change it back. Regardless of what I have set as the default version when opening a .qmd it is being opened in visual editor which is causing the code change.
