I will play along.

I started this project because I wanted to play with service workers and I noticed that I could make service workers return responses generated by it, not by the server, using streams. I thought: I can work with that, I can take the mega library and, since it return streams, I can make a service worker that return Mega files. That ended being Direct MEGA.

The fork was a need because tonistiigi's didn't worked well in modern browsers: some dependencies relied on __proto__ which is not supported in some browsers (and, now, Deno) and updating those dependencies broke the code. Because of that I forked the project and started modernizing it by moving to ES modules and fixing issues so it would run in a browser again. I kept working on this project even after Direct MEGA ended adding new features and fixing issues, and now it's my most popular open-source project here in GitHub.
