Turning on tracing speeds up digitising features, but it is not available in the node tool, and it would be a big usability improvement. I think perhaps it would make feature requests like #14388 unnecessary.
Thinking about it there are a few different ways it could work, and the code would obviously be more complicated than elsewhere tracing is available. e.g. when clicking + to add a node, it could to require you to click twice, with it only tracing between those two points (not back to the existing nodes), but it would then need to figure out which end of the line you trace it should connect to which existing node.
Or, it could require you after clicking + to click an existing node to start tracing from.
