Hi guys, could someone help me identify the problem with forwarder? I am able read/write data via serial. I am able read data via TCP forwarder however I am not able setup any register. Currently I use minimalmodbus which works well however I would like to migrate to pymodbus TCP and control the unit via HA.

I think I do not understand your question.

You want to migrate to HA/modbus, but that is a client setup, and the forwarder is a server setup.

You say the serial forwarding works, then what is it that do not work ?

HA have documention on how to setup modbus, maybe you did not see that.

The serial_forwarder you based your source on, is from the contrib directory if you read the README it is user contributions, however write should work.

I did a short test and write is passed through, however you might have defined the slave number incorrectly. We are working at combining modbus_forwarder.py with serial_forwarder.py in order to have it automatic tested, you can follow this work on #1430

The slave is defined correctly - btw slave - I have checked latest version https://github.com/pymodbus-dev/pymodbus/blob/dev/examples/contrib/serial_forwarder.py#L41 and looks like the slave attribute is wrong - script works only with unit attribute.

pymodbus receives an incomplete frame so it resets to try again.

Home assistant works excellent with the pymodbus server I use it daily, you need to use the same framer in both configurations, most normal is to use the socket framer.

In the forwarder you do not setup registers, you forward the request...so what is it exactly you want to setup ??
