Yes, definitely! If it doesn't work, it is a bug.

It's complicated. I used pip install to put jdk-23.0.2+7 in a hidden folder called .jdk as recommended in documentation, but py5 is still looking for jdk-17. How do I change the default jvm path?

py5 is unable to start a Java 17 Virtual Machine.
This library requires Java 17 to be installed and a properly set JAVA_HOME environment variable.

Try setting the JAVA_HOME environment variable. Or uninstall Java 17. If JPype finds more than one JRE it will use the first one it finds, not the one with the highest version number.

This worked in my situation. I removed jdk-17 from my Thonny folder and left only jdk-23 and so far it has held. You also have to change JAVA_HOME in the Thonny editor to reflect the desired jdk (Tools/options menuItem). I wanted to test out some experimental javafx_metal jar files in py5 and these changes allowed me to do it (I can't see much difference from old javafx jar files controls). There are a couple of ways to get to this folder on a Mac: One way is to go to your Home drive and look inside a 'hidden' Library folder. It will appear to be grayed out, but if you have given yourself permission to open it you can open it (I can't recall how I gave myself permission to do that, but I think it was through a command line command). Inside the Library folder is the Thonny folder. Alternatively you can use the "Go" menuItem on the Finder menubar to open the Library folder (shown below):
