The url https://www.puppet.com/docs/puppet/8/install_puppet#install_puppet_server links to a generic page which leads to the same shared link. Content is not available.

The whole documentation has gone without a redirect.

For those that might end up here trying to find syntax references etc, you can find them in github - https://github.com/puppetlabs/puppet/blob/main/references/types/

This person's issue on another repo might be helpful too OpenVoxProject/puppet#33

But not the actually really good previous install docs :-/

Me being "this person" at OpenVox comments. For me it changed while I was exploring documentation. Suddenly pages directing me at this documentation landing page. Clicked back button, things seemed to work... But then I decided to refresh and ended on that landing page again.

Anyways documentation is still there. A lot worse to find and it is presented in a way worse way. You have to navigate between subsections instead of scrolling and having anchors. No TOC at the start of page. No way to quickly copy code from code block and search seemed worse than it was in old documentation. Modules documentation is kind of broken. For example resources_augeas that used to direct to puppetforge now directs to documentation, but if you search for it on documentation page, you don't get any hints that you should search at puppetforge.

That relationships documentation is now https://help.puppet.com/osp/current/Content/PuppetCore/lang_relationships.htm

Generally whole new documentation is broken. Numerous referral links from various external sources end up on osp documentation landing page. Even some redirects from the old format EE documentation end up the same way.

I wish they (Perforce) just kept old documentation there and made new documentation for Puppet Core and maybe even bump version to 9, so all documentation that was prior to open source EOL would still be reachable in meaningful way. Just mark somewhere above that documentation is no longer updated and link to new one. That way redirects would have stayed intact and users notified.

I found that in some cases it is worth taking the link of the page, pasting it in address bar, replacing latest/ with 7/. For most of pages it does work and you get somewhat useful information.

i.e. https://puppet.com/docs/puppet/latest/resources_augeas.html -> https://puppet.com/docs/puppet/7/resources_augeas.html
