Removal of JPG & BMP Support

What’s everyones opinion about removing support for JPG & BMP formats?

Pros

• Decreased ELF size due to less linked libs (this may also help solve issues with launching OPL from modchip menus)
• Everyone uses the same format making theme optimisations easier and more precise
• Less bloated code base

Cons

• Can’t use jpg or bmp that’s literally it

Yes & No, No for people that have already adapted to png and Yes to people with outdated art databases. For several years now we’ve suggested people switch to png and even OPLM is an all png database now.

So we’d just be enforcing it rather than suggesting it now. Since multi bit depth support for png was added to OPL jpg has been deprecated, there is no benefit to using jpg over png but there are benefits to using png over jpg.

Lower bit depths allow for lower vram usage so we can have more stuff on screen at the same time without the ps2 crapping itself, likely faster loading than jpg although I haven’t personally tested the difference. Personally I think all other formats are just pointless now and unnecessary bloat but that’s why I opened a discussion as other people may have differing opinions.
