There should be a handful of tests testing that timed operations indeed return a proper error code if the connection and/or tunnel is closed.

During connection close:

Pending requests
Pending tunnel constructions
Pending tunnel sends/recvs

During tunnel close:

Pending tunnel sends/recvs
