Presently, the PQCP TSC meets every two weeks at 01.00pm UTC. As discussed in the meeting on 16 January 2025 I'm making this issue to gauge interest from the community and see whether alternate time slots would allow for increased member participation.

In addition to discussion amongst existing members, we could consider sharing this :

  • PQCA TSC mailing list (offline, since the next meeting is in a month)
  • Open Quantum safe mailing list, github discussions, in dev meetings
  • Discord (pqcp channels)

Directly with anyone we each know how may be interested

Particularly affected are those towards the central/west of US & Canada
If we do change @mkannwischer is likely most affected

Possibly:

  • openSSl mailing list - if it relates to any ongoing discussion around usage?

Any other places?

As far as approaches, one thing the oqs team do, is to have alternate timed meetings a few hours apart. this adds a little more flexibility for time zones either side (1500 utc and 1730 utc)

Perhaps we could consider, amongst the current members, is how late we can reasonably go, so as to try an alternate late session?

I would not mind to alternate the meeting time as the current meeting time (9 pm) isn't ideal for me either.
We could do one slot that is friendly to Americas + Europe and one that is friendly to Europe + Asia.

I would be in agreement to that

How about

  • Europe/Asia meeting at 0900 UK time

    • 1000 Central European
    • 1700 Taiwan
  • Europe/US at 1600 UK

    • 1700 Central European
    • 0800 US West Coast
    • 1000 Toronto
    • 1100 US East Coast

Also:

  • same day of week - Thursday
  • Schedule in local time (Probably CET to reflect the largest membership). This changes the same dates across europe, within a week or so of USA. This does mean the times in Taiwan will switch
  • Schedule for 30 minutes

Any feedback @hanno-becker @praveksharma @tfaoliveira @jschanck @mbbarbosa @dstebila @franziskuskiefer ?

Sounds good to me. I'm fine with scheduling in CET/CEST - just make sure the calendar entry is correct.

I might not always be able to make the 1700 CET slot. But I'd be fine with this schedule.

This schedule looks good to me.

I suggest we implement this from 20250227 as it could cause more confusion if we change it now
