Moving mouse over dock or panel spikes CPU usage, resulting in lags

My dock is set to auto-hide. When I am on an empty workspace and move my mouse over the dock, the mouse speed significantly slows down. When having htop upon on a terminal, I can see that the CPU usage of the cosmic-comp process spikes from 40% idle (which is already quite high) to 70-80%.
I run Gentoo Linux, distribution kernel 6.6.62 and COSMIC alpha4.
