Microg/signature spoofing

I'm new to this ROM. For the most part I've just ran officially supported lineageos devices. I would really like to get google maps working. Ideally with microg. From what I've read the maintainer won't add support for spoofing. This may not be the correct place to look/ask but could someone point me in the right direction? Am I able to patch my already installed ROM? I installed the microg app through fdroid and that didn't get me signature spoofing
