As it relates to this discussion, we need to update the

  • Registration Successful page
    image

and the

  • Email Confirm Requested page
    image

to show the email address that the confirmation is actually going to and to give tips about user-side issues that could prevent reception of confirmation email.

The destination email address is important because some users unknowingly enter their email address (or their instructor's email address) incorrectly, and seeing it on the confirmation page gives them a new opportunity to realize their mistake.

The tips are important because there are various anti-spam and/or privacy policies enforced on the user-side, or from the corporation or school that the user belongs to, that prevent the user from seeing the confirmation email.

Suggested tips to give:

The confirmation email is being sent from our automated system: [email protected]
(via amazonses.com)

If you don't receive your confirmation email:

  • Check your email account's SPAM/Junk email folder
  • Verify that your email system allows email from the sender address (above)
  • Try adding the sender address (above) to your email system's contact list, then try the Email Not Yet Confirmed form to re-send the confirmation

The above tips should be updated as needed if we are aware of other potential solutions or better wording.

Educational school district has students who are 13 and over, but the school district blocks outside domains at this age level. For students who claim they are 13 or over, could we add a check-box that says "I am 13 or over and my school blocks incoming e-mail" which enables them to add the teacher e-mail field? @zfi

Thanks @kgracey - that's definitely something we should consider!

UPDATE:

  • @kgracey's suggestion was implemented as the alternate address field.
  • The original post still needs implementation.
