Loosing points when recorded track is finally saved

When I record a track, then a sufficient number of points is recorded (every 10 seconds). The track looks detailed enough for my liking. However, when I save the track, the majority of track points seems to be discarded and my track looks like a crude zig-zag line lying somewhat above my original track. Is there a way to make OSMand store all (or at least more) recorded points?
