CORS error when accessing gist.githubusercontent.com from a web frontend

When I make a request to https://gist.githubusercontent.com/*, I get CORS error. Want to understand how do I prevent the error?
I could use a proxy like https://cors-anywhere.herokuapp.com/ but it has its limitations.

Since this is anyway a public domain, I was wondering what is the reason for adding CORS blocking on this domain?
