Overview

This issue highlights a discrepancy in the representation of power capacity between Open Cycle Gas Turbine (OCGT) power plants and other Combined Heat and Power (CHP) gas power plants within the dataset.

Current Behavior

  • OCGT Power Plants: The power capacity mentioned for OCGT plants includes the total output, encompassing both thermal and electrical outputs.
  • Other CHP Power Plants: For these plants, the power capacity is indicated based solely on their electrical output. The efficiency metrics are considered but only applied during the eTraGo processing stage.

Expected Behavior

For consistency and to facilitate comparative analysis, all gas power plants, including OCGT and CHP, should have their power capacities specified in a uniform manner. This could mean:

  • Aligning all specifications to include both thermal and electrical outputs.
  • Clearly documenting the methodology used for power capacity specification across different plant types.

Impact

The current inconsistency could lead to inaccurate assumptions or calculations when analyzing power output or efficiency across various gas power plants. Standardizing the approach to specifying power capacities is crucial for the integrity and usability of the dataset.

As soon as this is implemented the changes need to be reflected within eTraGo as well. See related issue.
