NVDA reporting unknown in web content in Firefox 57 on Windows 7 #7790
Comments
Hi, how about with 2017.3 and/or 2017.4 RC? Thanks.
|
This is the effect I'm getting on any nvda version on a windows 7 64 bit
machine and 32 bi5t ff 57.
I gave up trying to get anything but the menus to work and have gone back
to 52.

I am not able to reproduce this using Firefox 57 with NVDA master-14625,b6c4d81f on Windows 10. |
If I do not have permission to install ESR version, do we have any other alternate solution or workaround on this? do you know when the Firefox next version will be released with this fix? Thanks in advance. |
Hi, could you mind answering my question please: does it work with NVDA 2017.3 and 2017.4 RC? If not, then let’s talk about other workarounds. Thanks.
|
Obviously as I said in my last message here, I cannot try the virtual
machine scenario, but I have got to say that windows 7 64 32 bit firefox 57
only had menus working last week when I tested it and really the esr version
was the only thing I felt comfortable with. this was in, at that time up to
the latest Master.
I am given to understand others had it run fine though a little slower. Not
my experience it was updated from version55 on the machine. All navigational
sounds were also missing and I had to re install add ons after the downgrade
again.
I'm not at all surprised some find its different to others myself and would
suggest that any admin who does not allow a blind user to update to the esr
was a bit of a menace to said company. The industry has been using FF for
years with little problems so not allowing one user to use a supported
version
other than the latest is stupid.

I've seen other reports of this also, but only on Windows 7. I haven't yet been able to confirm it myself, though. |
Nope, there's a report of this in Windows 10 also: #7778. |
@manijais85, @Brian1Gaff, could you please try the following instructions if you're able (adapted from #2807 (comment)):
Does that resolve the problem? |
Hi, at the moment I cannot use the new version on windows 7 as I'm in the
middle of some critical work and I need a working Firefox so have put in
the esr version.
However I was running the 32 bit version of Firefox on a 64 bit versions of
Windows 7.
If nobody else can try it, I may be able to do it in a week or so.

I am out of town this weekend so I will try this on Monday and let you know
the results
Thank you!

I shall watch with interest.
However I do mourn the loss of navigational sounds add on in the latest
Firefoxes also. I like the sound when the page has finally finished loading
and the click of links and the download finished as there is no other way to
have confirmation.

@manijais85, is this still an issue for you? |
Note that the system registry fixes above now get applied by NVDA when it is installed. You can also re-apply them by using NVDA menu -> Tools -> Run COM Registration Fixing tool. Since we haven't had a reply from the reporter in several months and I haven't heard any further reports of this, I'm closing this as worksForMe. Please reopen if the problem persists. |
