Hi, User Feedback WG,

the Node.js Diagnostics WG is looking for help to create and distribute a survey about diagnostics use cases with Node.js. Is this something you could help us?

Context

nodejs/diagnostics#309

Part of the use case and user journey driven diagnostics and best practices efforts we would like to collect information from the community about Node.js diagnostics use cases. We are planning to use the collected data to decide which diagnostics use-cases we will focus in the first round. The information will be also used to complete the Node.js WG Diagnostics User Journeys document and to help move out the document from the draft state.

Survey Proposal

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1T2hGtYcUxLiBZD29daDNvZkgRZi4YPNHwYqZ8YtT0yw/edit#heading=h.6wa1g9fvakxd

Help we are looking for

  • Expertise on surveys, making the questions in an effective way
  • Distribution channels
  • Tool recommendation: Google Form? Survey monkey? etc.

Thank you!

@joesepi FYI as I think you are leading the work on surveys at this point right?

Hello @hekike and extended diagnostics friends! 🎉

I'd be happy to help work through executing a survey.

First let me say that this process is a work in progress and I hope you'll help me dogfood it and make it better for future surveys. 🙌

The first thing to do would be to open an issue in this repo using the User-Feedback Survey template.

I would also include (as a follow on comment?) your questions above. I'll try to address some of them right now though:

  • I believe we have resources in the foundation that can help craft questions, once you have landed on what you think you'd like to ask. We can work through that process together -- I'll get the right people involved.
  • I believe we have some distribution channels from previous Node Foundation surveys. We can get clarity on that as well and perhaps work through additional options for this survey and future surveys.
  • I believe the foundation has a preferred tool and my assumption is that when we have what we think is ready to go, they will take the questions (and context) and execute the survey for us and come back with the results. An example is here (https://github.com/nodejs/user-feedback/tree/master/data/2018-02-benchmarking-wg-survey) but this survey was executed a year or more ago so our process/results may be slightly different -- we'll see.

Once you have the issue open using the template, we can get the foundation folks involved and see about next steps such as help crafting the questions for best results and what the process looks like beyond that.

Thanks!!!
