Should it be sorted by date (e.g. commit time) as now or by post title or just random as it is now?

Letter from the Modelica Association shall be first, or outside the MA category?

@xogeny @MartinOtter do you have some input on this?

Previously, I would sort them mainly based on how they looked on the page. Note that with sorting contributors may attempt to "game the system". For example, if you base it on commit time, savvy contributors may commit trivial changes to all their articles at the last minute.

In the previous newsletter app, there was a "weight" field that I could use to control relative ordering. I suspect that may be useful at some point. But I'm not sure exactly how you would do that with Jekyll. Perhaps you can add some metadata and sort based on that. So I would suggest adding such a thing. In the case of the previous newsletter, they were sorted by "weight" and I think equally weighted articles were sorted by creation time (vs. modified time...which is what commit time would be, right). Unfortunately, I don't see a way to track creation time very easily in this system. But using creation time is good because it will push people to contribute earlier.

  • Sorting: For this first newsletter it should be as simple as possible, so I would suggest to use "random" as it is now. For the future, it depends on what is technically possible with as less effort from your side (both according to first committ or random (determined with a random number generator) looks fine to me). In any case, it should be possible to re-order, if there is an obvious logic that some articles should be one after the other.

  • The "Letter from the Board" should always be first, outside of the other categories.

I will implement the wight logic, otherwise the posts are sorted on the last-edited first basis. The letter from the board stands out.
