Minimizing SMTP sram drain

I'm running out of sram on my bloated app and am curious if this memory usage is normal. It's an R4 wifi, is this to be expected? Thks

Before SMTP Connect:- SRAM left: 18239
smtp.connect successful
After SMTP Connect:- SRAM left: 4179
