Is it possible to configure such that newly opened containers by default have tabbed layout?

Might this be what you're looking for? https://wiki.miracle-wm.org/latest/configuration/workspaces/

My tabbed layout support is a bit poor at the moment as we await custom decorations in Mir (which are coming soon!)
