Hey, i'm no coder either but i've been using airplay for a long time, and if you try to stream music on different airplay2 devices, it will never sync correctly with an apple tv.. apple tv is made for video, and focus on syncing images and sound. There's always a delay, maybe a buffer thing.. |

There are a couple of things. First, the log is showing that the transmission is restarting from time to time. Did you stop/start or change the source somehow? Second, AVRs (and Bluetooth headphones or speakers) almost always introduce some kind of digital processing delay. To check for true synchronisation, you should some something completely analog, like wired headphones, plugged directly into the Pi. If you find that the Pi is leading the AVR, you can change the offset in the settings. |

Hi everyone,
Been experimenting with the new AirPlay 2 implementation. I'm having recurring issues with audio sync between systems - one RasPi 3 HDMI out and the other an ATV 4k HDMI out. Both systems are run into receivers, and I've tested both receivers in direct and indirect mode with no changes in delay. I've tested different sources - two iPhones, the ATV and an iPad. I've set up alsa hardware control on the RasPi.
There is a consistently audible delay (long enough to be heard as an echo rather than a smear) from the RasPi 3, and it seems to be showing in the logs as "recovering from a previous underrun". I'm no coder by any means so I've attached the logs so you can see what I mean and if you've got any hints for my system or see a wider issue please ask more questions...!
