Cache options

The current documentation states:

A Cache Module is used to cache the results of computations such as price selection or various tax calculations.

The underlying database, third-party service, or caching logic is flexible since it's implemented in a module. You can choose from Medusa’s cache modules or create your own to support something more suitable for your architecture.

But it does not tell us exactly what is cached, when it's cached and how we can choose. It just says "such as" but doesn't give a full list or any way of customising this. Does it cache shipping rate calculations? Can I choose what and when?

The module only exposes three methods which are just integrators for existing behaviour, but not controls over what/when:
