I think it makes sense to give the option to route the USB signals to the white AMP connector.
Replacing the (un-needed) grounds at pins 1-4.
This would allow a simpler installation and the end user to choose where the USB port goes in installs where the ECU might not be easily accessible, as well as simplifying case design.

Which might lead to useful mounting for USB stick logging etc.
