This port does not have autosave! So I suggest that whenever you feel like is necessary press "F6" to quick save or open the pause menu, select "Save/Load game" > "Save game", select a save slot and save the game. Now whenever you die or re-open the game just click "F7" if you quick saved or go through the whole menu load stuff.
